Technical Difficulties

It has been a while since my last post, and I hope to put up more pictures soon.  I'm having some technical difficulties, so bear with me.  Thanks!

Foundation, continued - Tuesday, August 5th

They removed the forms today and added the vents in the foundation.  You can see them every few feet along the top of the foundation.

They've dug down to make the connection to city water.

The Foundation - Monday, August 4th

Earlier today the forms were put in place and the cement was poured.  You're looking at our foundation!

As you can see, the foundation will need to set for a few days.  The forms may be removed as early as tomorrow since it has been so hot.  We'll see then.

More Drying - Sunday, August 3rd

No change.  Still drying.

The Footings Curing - Saturday, August 2nd

No changes.  It is the weekend and there is plenty of time for the footings to dry before work gets started again on Monday.

It Begins! - Friday, August 1st

Surprise! Without notice, our house sprang into existence.  Here you see the footings being poured.  The footings sit under the foundation.

The cement forms are well-used and they were able to finish the entire job (including digging, setting up the forms, and pouring the cement) in one day!

Kevan is standing in my study to take this picture.  To the right is the garage and to the left is the kitchen....I think so anyway - I'm getting a little turned around.......

This larger slab is where the water heater and heating unit will sit.  They'll be in the garage.

The Lot

We have officially taken the first step in building our house!  Lot #5 in Block 7 of Morningside Subdivision is now ours.

Here's the entrance to our new home.

Here's our lot.

As you can see, there isn't much to look at right now.  The lot sits right in front of the subdivision park and you can see our private gate that leads to the park.

We've been meeting with our builders this past week to go over plans.  There are so many details to work out before building starts.  Once everyone agrees on the plan, we'll submit it to the city to get our building permits.  Until then, we'll do a lot of waiting....not my favorite thing to do.

The Newborn

It is time.  Though, I have arrived sorely late (my husband already has two), and not nearly dressed for the occasion as I wish (hey, polka-dots are chic again), I have come bearing my newborn blog.  As any new parent, I am in complete denial about the amount of time and effort it may take to raise my blog.  But, I have born it thinking selfishly in hopes that it will serve a single, simple purpose: to chronicle my life events.  I look forward to entertaining you with my musings on future topics such as paint color choices and puppy dogs.  Stay tuned...
